Meet the author – Craig A. Roberts
Craig lives between the mountains and the sea, on Kapiti Coast, New Zealand. Nowadays most of his mornings start the same way: “I climb up the stairs to my den with my Springer Spaniel with a fresh hot coffee and open the window to hear the bird song”. After time in contemplative prayer and exploring the scriptures I make another coffee and write…”. Craig holds a Ph.D. in leadership studies. Before writing full-time he worked for twenty years coaching leaders in New Zealand and Australia. There was plenty about it Craig loved: helping innovative people face deep changes they wanted to make within themselves.

‘I read this book over several days in December during my early morning quiet times and I loved it.
It is sublime.
There’s a real beauty and a timelessness to the poetry which connects the inner and the outer. The safe and the warm with the danger and the storm.
It’s about taking time to hear the Creator’s voice through the Creation.
There are some astute observations about birds. Reading ‘Gannet Vision’ I heard echoes of Ted Hughes, but a Ted Hughes with the sharp, rough edges smoothed off by the waters of grace.
‘Heart of the Wild Goose’ recalled the song by Iona and the call there for us all to journey into the Beyond with the Wild Goose, as the Celtic tradition calls God’s Holy Spirit, despite our fears, for he is beside us.
Despite our fears because here too is fear, rejection, the temptation to melancholy and self-pity: the poet shares his all-too-human struggles whilst continuing to believe and hope in the One who overcame those struggles and encourages us to do the same.
Finally, it is a book for anyone who desires to fly with the Wild Goose, to follow the Good Shepherd and so discover and know the Father’s love for us.’

This is a delightful collection of poems and songs. The eye-popping shades of green and beautiful font (used for the word Serenity) on the cover made brought a smile to my face, as it lent itself as a ‘precursor’ of what was to come. The author has a beautiful style of writing that makes it easy to get inside their head and read it in a way that I can imagine them saying it. I admire how they used their poetic licence to steer away from the conventional use capital letters at the beginning of every line to make it read and flow better as the author intends for it to be spoken.

When reading through the poetry of Serenity, I was given a glimpse into the personal relationship Craig has with the Trinity. These humble and pure words placed me in moments of reflection and realignment with God’s truth. Craig’s poems are in touch with humanity while drawing the reader towards the foundational love and guidance of God.
Each poem was crafted to capture a specific moment or theme, providing an opportunity to select one of relevance to personal circumstances. I believe this book can be incorporated during quiet times with God and in collective prayer and reflection. The imagery within the collection of poetry is specific to Craig’s location in New Zealand, while still providing depth and connection to a wide audience.
I loved reading Craig’s poetry and would recommend it to those seeking personal comfort and encouragement from the Trinity.

I’ve spent a few months journeying through this beautiful book of grace and warmth. The moment I opened the envelope and saw the book cover, I was greatly impressed by it’s beautiful design and bright appearance. It is so aesthetically attractive and inviting.
I made a cup of hot earl grey tea and began my journey to Serenity.
Craig has a way with words, a hunger for the things of God and a deep appreciation for nature – this is so evident in his marrying of all three in his splendid book.
I found his titles intriguing as I traced his themes throughout each poem.
During these lockdowns, it’s been nice to simply pick up Craig’s book from my coffee table and let it fall open on a random page, and escape for a few minutes.
This wonderful little book is a beautiful correlation of the hunger of the heart for true intimacy with God, and a desire to trace God’s hand through His creation.
I am a great lover of nature and wildlife photography, so I really enjoyed Craig’s creative analogies of birds, creation, seasons, and the beauty of nature. What a wonderful treasure of words, all encapsulated in such a way that the heart of the reader is drawn lovingly to a more intimate relationship with God.
Well done Craig. I especially loved the poems, Broken Signposts, Hope, Heart of the Wild Goose, and Peace in the Storm.
Looking forward to more penmanship and publishing by Craig and Wild Goose Publishing.
Happy Reader,
Denise Kennedy
